Report Card Grading
Academic Skills Indicators- Kindergarten students do not receive letter grades. They will be assessed with academic skills indicators which indicate their progress in meeting the end-of-year standards. The indicators are listed below.
M: The student consistently meets or exceeds end-of-year expectations for this standard.
P: The student shows expected growth/progress in meeting the end-of-year standard.
B: The student is beginning to progress towards meeting the end-of-year standard.
N: The student needs intensive support at school and home to develop the end-of-year standard.
If left blank, this standard was not addressed or assessed during this reporting period.
Homework
Students will have a monthly homework calendar. Students will need to choose at least 3 activities to complete each week. All work will need to be done in the homework notebook and turned in at the end of the month.
Classroom Management Plan and Expectations
We focus on positive reinforcement and praise when addressing behaviors in the classroom. We kindly encourage our students to use a calming area that is available to them. At the calming area, there is a bean bag chair with some stuffed animals, a lock puzzle, fidgets, timers, and deep breathing activities. When the timer is finished and their body is calm, your student will have a conversation with the student and encourage them to return and join us.
Procedures for non-instructional routines:
Morning Routine: Students enter the classroom, turn in their folder, make a lunch choice, use the bathroom/get supplies if needed and go to their seats to begin morning work.
Restroom Procedures: We have a bathroom in our classroom. Students are able to use the restroom as often as needed. However, we do encourage students to use the restroom during independent work or given bathroom breaks rather than instructional time.
Breakfast/ Lunch: Free breakfast is offered daily for all students. Our school offers different lunch options daily. Students will make their own lunch choice each day or choose to bring lunch from home. Lunch menus can be found online. Our lunch time is 10:25am. School lunches are also free for all students this school year.
Recess: The Kindergarten Playground is located at the side of the school. We have 20 minutes for outdoor play. We follow Greenville County School guidelines for inclement weather conditions. If the weather prevents us from going outside, we will have indoor recess.
Communication: Teachers will send a weekly newsletter on SeeSaw. Teachers will communicate with parents individually as needed.
Organization: Money needs to be sent in a bag or envelope and placed in the green take home folder. It should be labeled with your child’s name, as well as what the money was sent in for. Please send the exact change. Also- please note that we do not check pockets or backpacks for money or any other personal items/papers. Only folders are checked on a daily basis.
Transportation: If your child needs to go home a different way than usual, we must have communication (note, e-mail, seesaw, phone call to the office) from a parent.
Absences: If your child is absent, please send a note with an explanation or a doctor’s excuse when applicable. Students are only permitted 10 unexcused absences each year.
eLearning guidelines for inclement weather: In the event of inclement weather, teachers will communicate class assignments to all families in the class.
