Project Based Learning
So far in our class we have been learning about all the different stories and historical events of the Mormon Pioneers. We have learned how the migrated to this state from all over the world and settled in the great state we know today as Utah. It is time that we share our own pilgrimage stories. For this project, you will be making a presentation, either digital or on a poster board, that shares the story of the first family member you have that migrated to Utah. This can be anyone in your family, as long as they were the first to arrive! The goal is to share our stories with one another and connect to ourselves to our own unique heritages. On this page you will find an example of a power point document and the components that you will need to include in your own presentations. There is also a rubric listed below of the grading structure for this assignment. We will be presenting these presentations in class so they need to be done before December 1st.
The things you will need in your presentation
Title page, included with your name, and the name of the first person in your family to arrive in Utah
Include an image of the family member somewhere in the presentation (make sure you site the website you used if you found it on the web)
Write a biography of the person, including where they were born, where they grew up (if different from Utah), interesting facts about them before they arrived in Utah, and how they are related to you! If you found any facts about them online cite the sources you used!
Find out why they moved to Utah, what they did when they first moved here, and explain a little bit of their life once they settled in Utah.
Lastly, Write 3 ideas you have that can show how we as a community can better support new immigrants coming to Utah.
Add a reference page (if applicable).
