Ready to show off your ideas? This page explains what you need to create and how to submit your project for the CityLab Middle School Design Competition. Think of it as your roadmap — follow the steps, include the required pieces, and make sure your final project is packaged the right way. By completing the deliverables and turning them in through the Google Form, you’ll officially enter the Competition and get the chance to have your work seen by architects, teachers, and students.
DELIVERABLES
Your competition entry will be a 6-slide presentation. Think of it like a digital poster board that shows off your design. Each slide serves a purpose, and together they showcase your complete design. If you draw by hand or build a model, take clear photos and include them in your slides.

Provide a written description of your STEAM space, including the main design features and your 5 (or more!) STEAM related activities that encourage exploration - 300-word minimum. (15 points)

Include at least 10 labeled pictures that capture the look and feel of your STEAM space.
Pictures can be from the internet, magazines, books, or pictures you take that capture the look and feel of your design.
Be sure to label each picture to let us know what is of interest in the images you include (2 points each)
A CASE STUDY is an in-depth examination of a real-world subject used to expand your knowledge and understanding of a topic or investigation.
Use the book "How to Be An Explorer of the World" by Keri Smith that was provided to your Sponsor to analyze your visit to a park or public space. Be sure to read the important "Exploration Resources- How to Be an Explorer of the World" tab in the "Overview" section for details and information.
Complete and provide documentation of at least (2) of the numbered “Explorations” from the “How to Be an Explorer” book of the park or public space that you and your teammates visited to get ideas for your STEAM space (up to 5 points per “Exploration”). Students are encouraged to do more than (2) Case Study Explorations, and will receive points for each additional exploration. (20 point maximum).
