Grid Drawing

Unit one for 6th grade acknowledges the importance of utilizing the right side of your brain when drawing in realism based on a reference image.  They select an animal from National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore’s Photo Ark https://www.joelsartore.com/photo-ark/ and apply the grid drawing technique.  Grid drawing informs students how to break down a challenging composition into smaller pieces by paying attention to specific lines & angles, then students create a finished piece by practicing color matching based on the animal they chose. Our focus is on Joel Sartore as our exemplary artist because his photo ark brings excitement and recognition to over 15,000 species.
