1992 Graduated Wheaton College with a BA in Literature (minor in Mathematics)
1992-1993 English teacher at Saipan Community School (Saipan is a small Pacific island north of Guam)
1994-1996 English teacher at Guamani Private School in Guayama, Puerto Rico
1996-2001 English teacher at Milpitas High School
2002-present English teacher at Oak Grove High School
Summers 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024 ETS scorer for AP English Language and Composition test
2021 Completed an MA in Education--Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University Irvine
2021-2023 Professional development coordinator at Oak Grove High School
2023-present ELL (English language learner) mentor at Oak Grove High School

Educational Philosophy:

Reading and writing are essential aspects of critical thinking and essential skills in our interconnected, information-packed world.
Students can only improve their skills with consistent guided practice.
Students deserve multiple opportunities to learn and improve within realistic time limits.
Students need clear expectations for behavior and academics.

Family and Extracurricular Activities:

When I'm not busy teaching, planning, or grading essays, I like to...

hang out with my husband and my son
read (historical fiction, science fiction, and memoirs in particular)
cook
travel
garden (especially tomatoes and basil)
exercise (yoga, hiking, and zumba)
listen to podcasts while exercising (a few favorites include the radio documentaries of This American Life and Revisionist History and Throughline and the stories of The Moth)
