Course Description:
Our Literature, Composition and Communication Skills classes are comprised of reading and analyzing literature of authors from around the world and who have written in all genres, including poetry, dramas, nonfiction, short stories, and novels. In addition to reading and analyzing world literature, students will also compose writings ranging from journaling to essays. Students will also build their speaking skills with presentations and discussions on a wide variety of topics. As our class is based on English language acquisition, there is a heavy emphasis on English grammar and vocabulary.
Materials Needed:
School issued device – fully charged daily | spiral notebooks for writing
Organizational binder | pencils, pens, and highlighters | index cards
Texts and Technology:
Textbook – Edge by National Geographic Learning (eBook via Classlink)
Technology – iLit ELL, Reading / Grammar Explorer, World English, & 21st Century Reading (all eBooks by National Geographic Learning accessed via Classlink)
Grading:
50% - Major Assignments – essays, tests, projects/presentations, performance assessments
35% - Minor Assignments – quizzes, digital platforms
15% - Practice – class participation, homework
Expectations: Please follow all school rules and dress code. No personal electronic devices are to be seen in class. If your cell phone becomes a distraction, it will be confiscated to be picked up at the end of the day. No food or drinks allowed in the classroom without prior permission. Plain water bottle is allowed in class.
Academic Honesty: Cheating is non-negotiable in the classroom. If you are caught cheating including plagiarism, your assignment will receive a zero. No exceptions!
