English 9 Advanced

COURSE OVERVIEW

  • Literature – units include poetry, short stories, nonfiction, and drama, with an AP prep focus to start building terms and skills for AP English in grades 11 & 12. Class novels, biographies or memoirs, and dramas are studied.

  • Writing – assignments include many short writing pieces, at least one full writing process essay per semester, in class essays, and regular “Writer’s Notebook” assignments.

  • Vocabulary - Power Plus vocabulary systematically builds new vocabulary. Eight words are assigned per week with activities that incorporate sentence variety practice.

  • Grammar – weekly correction exercises practice grammar retention and new concepts.
