AP Language

COURSE OVERVIEW

AP English Language and Composition is an introductory college-level composition course. Students cultivate their understanding of writing and rhetorical arguments through reading, analyzing, and writing texts as they explore topics like rhetorical situation, claims and evidence, reasoning and organization, and style.

College credit can be attained through passing the AP exam in May.

UNITS OF STUDY


The overarching theme for the course is that of knowledge and its role in providing equity and stability towards the individual, society, and environment. Each thematic unit provides a variety of nonfiction texts to explore each theme and answer key questions as to how knowledge is important to each theme and on the reverse side, how the lack of knowledge creates barriers and conflicts.

SUMMER READING

This course focuses on nonfiction; therefore, reading nonfiction over the summer can prove very helpful--aim for a variety of topics and themes. Research the content of any book before reading it.
