What does "Appreciation" even mean?
It doesn't mean you have to like it!
In this class, we’ll explore how musical theater comes together, from the first idea on the page to the final bow. We’ll watch and discuss performances, look at scripts and scores, and dig into the choices directors, writers, and actors make. Part directing, part dramaturgy, part playscript analysis, this is a hands-on look at what makes musicals work. We’ll also team up with the Musical Revue students next door for a variety of collaborative projects!
Musicals are ALL AROUND US! As part of this class, I want to raise our awareness of musicals and how present and relative they are in our daily lives. I encourage everyone to seek out theatre in their own way, however that may be.

Movie-musicals are filmed for the screen. Most movie-musicals are book-to-film adaptations that make their way to the stage in later development. These are different than a proshot, which is a professionally recorded version of a staged musical. Proshots are the second best way to experience a musical - behind sitting in the theatre of course!
