Objectives (click/tap to expand)
Use properties of logarithms to expand a single logarithm into multiple logarithms
Use properties of logarithms to condense multiple logarithms into a single logarithm
Use the change of base formula
Graph logarithmic functions (we might skip)
I always find that even though logarithms were introduced a year ago in Algebra 2, many students tell me that they remember very little about this skill.
These videos were created during the sudden period of asynchronous "distance learning" resulting from the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic, so they're a little more thorough (and longer) than usual.
This first video introduces (or reintroduces) the logarithmic properties and change of base formula with a historical context that I hope you find interesting. It summarizes content that we would have covered in a live class.
This second video goes over examples of expanding and condensing logarithms, using logarithmic properties.
