Hey communications students, congratulations on almost finishing the Fall 2022 semester! As we steadily approach the final weeks, it's easy to become overwhelmed. Luckily, MRU has many fantastic resources to help relieve some of your academic stress!
Academic support:
MRU Academic Success Workshops
Do APA citations make you sweat? Don't fret! Head to the MRU library website and sign up for the 'APA: An Introduction workshop. This 75-minute workshop covers the fundamentals of APA citation and how to cite narratively and parenthetically.
If you are coming into your first year as an APA wiz, Don't worry! There's still a workshop for you! Student learning services hold an advanced workshop called 'APA 2: An Online Escape Room'. In this workshop, participants spend 75 minutes in an interactive group setting solving APA-related puzzles. While the Introductory workshop is held online and in class, the APA online escape room is strictly online, as the name suggests.
The library also holds many other workshops on topics such as grammar, time management and research planning.
SLS (Student Learning Services)
SLS, or Student Learning Services, offers a second set of eyes for your essay. Whether polishing that final draft or needing to know where to start, the SLS team in the Riddell Learning Center is there to help you every step of the way.

Mental Health:
As workloads increase and the stressors of university compile, it is not uncommon for students to neglect their mental and physical health. MRU PRS is a strong supporter of the university's student wellness service. The student wellness service offers one-on-one counselling to all MRU students. These sessions cover personal issues, career guidance and educational counselling, providing information and assistance to address obstacles that challenge academic performance.' The student wellness service also runs free, single-session group workshops that cover various mental health and wellness topics. You can sign up for one-on-one counselling and group workshops on the MRU website's student counselling page. The student wellness service's web page also holds campus resources and information on anything wellness-related, such as ADHD support, nutrition and stress management.
The connection between mental and physical health is undeniable. The fitness center is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. If weight lifting isn't your thing, the fitness center is also home to an Olympic size swimming pool and rock wall. All listed amenities are available free of charge to MRU students.
