Love Issue
The winter holidays are approaching almost as fast as finals! Buying gifts in December is hard: wishlist are confusing, and by the time you know the ‘perfect gift’ it is too late to ship it. The solution to gift buying? Calgary’s local business. Buying gifts from local businesses supports the community, but also makes your gifts unique! Here are some simple ideas to gift your family, study buddies, or maybe someone special.
Everybody loves their tea and coffee. Find or make a cute letter, put your cute and honest feelings into words, and plan a coffee date with your friend (on you, of course). As well, you can purchase coffee beans and tea to make at home from many local cafes. Here are some exciting cafes for that coffee date you gifted:
The sweetest gift on this last, there are many delicious chocolate places in town with many assortments and arrangements to gift.
Hot take (or cold take, because winter): plants are an underrated gift. Plants make every room beautiful, and each time your friend waters it they think “my friend bought me this plant, that is so sweet!”. Also, plants grow! Literally a gift that keeps on giving. Here are two of my favourite plant stores in Calgary.
With the semester ending textbooks are put down as novels are picked up. If you have a friend who loves books ask literally anything about books and they will go on and on about their past and future reads. Here are three awesome book stores
Jewelry never fails to be a beautiful, thoughtful gift. You know how your friends dress, so pick something that matches there style and then, ta-da, a great gift! There are so many local jewelry makers and stores in Calgary, but here are two of my faves.
Gift your friend a crystal! Crystals are both super pretty and a great little motivation tool. I would recommend getting either a good-sized crystal or an assortment of small ones. You can even prep a little explanation like, "I got you a rose quartz to match your loving, caring personality" which makes the gift much more special. It's not a rock, it's a thought out gift because you care.
