If your closest friend had to write your bio, what would it say?
Maya: I actually went and asked my closest friends this question and here is what they said: "I’d say you’re a hard working, coffee loving, sports enthusiastic and creative guru kinda person.", "I would say that you are resourceful, creative, team worker, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND EDUCATED" "i'd say you are open to new things, excited to help, opinionated with lots of good ideas and obsessed with hockey, you're thoughtful and careful, friendly, witty, always ready for new things professionally, easy to get along with"
If you could have coffee with anyone, who would it be and what is the first question you'd ask them?
Maya: Hmm I have a few people but right now I would say Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. I would probably ask her what keeps her going when things get tough.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Maya: I definitely can't narrow it down over my life to my best piece of advice, but in the recent weeks, the best piece of advice that I've heard was from Sorelle Amore on Youtube. "Your early 20s, in my opinion, should be dedicated to just trying as many things as possible...I have dedicated my life since graduating high school to just trying as many things as I can and seeing what sticks." This really helps me to remember that I don't need to know what I want right away and it's okay to keep experimenting until I find what's right for me.
What is your dream career?
Maya: My dream career would be to be a travel blogger, YouTuber or photographer. I love travelling, I love writing, I love creating and the idea of being able to do all of the above while being paid to do it is my dream.
If you were famous, what would it be for?
Maya: I'd hope either a blog post or a youtube video going viral but unfortunately... probably me saying something opinionated on Twitter lol.
What is your go-to form of self care?
Maya: I do find playing hockey to be a form of self care, but it can also be stressful and no easy to access at any given time. So for everyday, it would be getting a warm drink, putting on a TV Show, lighting a candle and relaxing under a blanket.
What is your favourite page to follow on social right now?
Maya: Either @minimalistiqqq or @bytheendofmay
What're you binge watching right now?
Maya: I've been digging back into 90s comfort shows, specifically Will & Grace (First season is on Amazon Prime) and Dawson's Creek (Netflix)
What is your favourite small business?
Maya: Oh my gosh I have so many, so I'll just name a couple. I've been obsessed with candles lately and I love @wancandles (based in Montreal). I've also been obsessed with curated second-hand clothing and my favourites are @yoursistersclosetyyc (Calgary) and @heartehmo (Calgary).
What're you working on right now?
Maya: My two biggest side hustles right now (besides my personal brand/blog MayaCatherineCreative on IG) are @TheCommsLounge and @NetsOffPod. You can find both on Instagram under those handles. The Comms Lounge is a joint project with my friend Cassidy Gjernes to help young professionals in the communications field find work, connections and support! There is a Facebook group linked on the Instagram that you can join! Netsoffpod is my currently not yet started sports podcast from a female, 20-something year old perspective!
