Here we go into week 6 of distance learning. It is another 5 day week. This week in phonics This week we will be focusing on the word family “ug.” Please have the children watch the introduction video, then they can complete the 3 daily jobs. Job 1: Read the poem aloud and highlight the ug words. Job 2: Read the ug mini book. Job 3: Complete the initial sound sheet.
Today we will be starting measurement. This week we will be looking at height. Please have the students watch the introduction video. After they have watched the video I would like them to find 3 things in their house or outside that are taller than them and 3 things that are shorter than them.
Science Experiment: Lava Lamps
*Note* This experiment worked really well every time I was not videoing. For best results use a narrow small glass. Good luck
Here is a short explanation of the chemical reaction if you would like to explain to your child. Personally, at this age I just like to ask them why they think it happened and to enjoy their wonder!
Oil and vinegar do not have the same density. Vinegar is more dense than the vegetable oil we are using in this science experiment. That’s why it sinks to the bottom of the container.
Once the vinegar touches the bottom of the container, it reacts with the baking soda. This chemical reaction creates bubbling carbon dioxide – these are the bubbles you see within the container.
