21 - 22 SCHOOL YEAR
Math: — Continue working on multiplication facts. Some of the students need to also be working on addition and subtraction. With half of the year over, we'll be learning more concepts that continue from the basic facts.
Word Study Information — Students do not have spelling tests this year. Instead we do word study groups. We do work on different word families, and study the patterns of those families and meanings of the words we have on the list.
Science and Social Studies Units: — Your students will begin Maps and Globes with Ms. Rojas on September 14!
Daily Homework Reading Minutes: — Third Graders are required to read 20 minutes each night. This reading can be done independently. The minutes can also be fulfilled reading to someone: a parent, a sibling, pet, stuffed animal, etc! I encourage you to listen to your student read at least one night a week. I also encourage you to please read TO your student at least one night a week. Listening to you allows your student to hear a good example of fluency.
I suggest to have a good balance of picture books and chapter books, for all reading levels. We will be visiting the Houdini Library at least once every other week. The students do have the opportunity to go to the library more often independently.
Reading/writing: — The students are getting acquainted with the expectations for our reading and writing time. Book check out in the LMC is on Wednesday.
