The Wilsona School District has an enrollment of just over 1250 students from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. There are two elementary schools (PK-2nd & 3rd-5th), one middle school (6th-8th), and one continuation site for grades 6th-8th. The District office is located on the elementary site. Currently there are 65 teachers in the District and 80 support staff. The School District is managed by the Superintendent.
The District covers approximately 100 square miles in the northeast corner of Los Angeles County, although most of the region is uninhabited. 90% of the area’s population is located within 20 square miles. The community includes both unincorporated parts of Palmdale and Lancaster as well as Wilsona Gardens and Lake Los Angeles. The District boundaries reach Avenue J to the north, 255th to the east, Avenue S to the south and 142nd to the west. Our high school students attend the Antelope Valley High School District.
What an elementary school counselor does.
Elementary counselors help set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring culture and climate. I do not do discipline.
I am here to nurture, protect, help modify behavior, and give treats when needed. No student is ever "in trouble" if they get called to the counselors' office. I am here to help students learn how to solve their problems and help them become even more awesome. I want all visitors to my office to feel accepted and wanted without judgement. This becomes critical when students need an adult who they trust if they are struggling socially, emotionally academically or in a crisis.
