My name is Karol Smith, and I am proud to serve as the School Counselor for Wilsona Elementary School and the SST Coordinator for both Wilsona Elementary and Challenger Middle School.
I have spent 22 years teaching and supporting young learners in the Antelope Valley as part of an amazing district that provides educational opportunities to income-qualified families through the Early Childhood Education/Head Start Program. During that time, I worked as a home-based teacher supporting pregnant and Early Head Start families, as well as a classroom teacher in the Head Start program. I also had the honor of serving as a mentor for at-risk youth through the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department VIDA program.
After earning my Master’s degree, I transitioned into counseling, working in an alternative education setting with students struggling in traditional school environments. In the 2021–2022 school year, I served as a middle school counselor in Lake Isabella, California. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with students across grade levels—two years with TK–4th graders at Vista San Gabriel, one year with 6th–8th graders at Challenger Middle School, and now, coming full circle, I am thrilled to be supporting our 3rd–5th grade students here at Wilsona Elementary School.
I hold an Associate’s Degree in Child and Family Education from Antelope Valley College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling with a P.P.S. Credential from the University of La Verne. I am deeply committed to lifelong learning so I can continue to serve our community and better understand the evolving challenges our children face.
I truly look forward to meeting and building relationships with all of my students and their families. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. You can connect with me by scanning the QR code to complete a referral form, emailing me directly, calling the Wilsona office, or contacting me through my Google Voice number.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Beyond my counseling role, I am a proud mom of three grown children and a very lucky grandmother to one amazing 12-year-old grandson and one extremely spoiled 7-year-old granddaughter. Family means everything to me — we love camping trips with cousins, exploring new places, and spending time together outdoors. Lately, I’ve been finding new ways to enjoy our dirt adventures and make fresh memories along the way.
When I’m not out exploring, you can often find me cheering as a season ticket holder for AV Alta, spending time with my church community, or rooting for my favorite team — the Cowboys! I also enjoy dancing, dining out with friends, and am always on the lookout for my next great adventure.
