Homework Expectations

There will be times in which students are asked to complete homework. Homework is work that is to be done on the student's time-- no class time is allowed for this work. Typically, there is enough time allotted during class hours to complete all assigned work; however, if a student chooses to use their class time for other purposes than intended, they may have more homework.

Please note that if a child turns in all of his or her work to the best of their ability (not partially completed, for example) the worst grade they will receive will be a 60% (D-) in my class. Effort and attitude play a large role in your success as a student!

Late Work/Missing Work Policy

All assignments have a "soft" due date (with the exception of art drying or firing deadlines, sketch book due dates, tests and quizzes, presentations, and rough draft essays) which means that in order for the student to stay on schedule with the rest of the class, he/she should turn in their work on that "soft" due date. If an assignment is not turned in, it will be entered into the grade book as a zero. However, students will be able to turn in any missing or late work (with the exception of the above mentioned assignments) with one to two weeks prior to the end of the grading cycle (the end of the quarter.) This work must be completed on the student's time, as the rest of the class will be moving forward with the curriculum.

It is up to the student to come in for assistance before/after school to address missing or late work-- I will NOT address missing work/late work issues during class time. No exceptions!

If a student has an excused absence, they have the opportunity to turn in the work as instructed in the NHS Student Handbook.

If a student has an unexcused absence on the day an assignment is due (including tests and quizzes) they will receive a zero.

Many teachers do not allow work to be turned in late. Many argue that it does not teach the concept of deadlines. And I agree whole-heartedly with this concept; however, my goal in allowing late work from students is to allow students to not only take as much time as necessary to complete the work to the best of their ability, but with an emphasis that ALL work is expected to be completed. My late work policy should not be viewed as a "get out of jail free card" nor should it be abused.

Students can expect for all work to be turned in approximately 2 weeks prior to the end of the quarter grading cycle. Signs will be posted around the room, and students will be verbally reminded daily about this due date.

Tardies & Truancy

Students are expected to be in the classroom when the final bell rings. School policies for tardies and truancy will be followed.
