Learning From Home
School looks very different right now across the country, but we are all in this together.
How can I help my child learn at home?
Your child may be learning in a hybrid environment (both at home and in-person at school) or fully online right now. Both of these situations are far, far outside of the "norm" we have all known as school in the past.
The best ways to help are often the most simple:
Read with your child! This is the best way to support your child's reading success at home. Use a variety of resources (books, magazines, websites), and share what you are thinking while you read.
Keep a routine as much as possible, and even consider posting it with words or pictures. Wake up and go to bed at the same time, build in weekly traditions (movie night at home, going to a park, etc.) for fun, and be sure to give your child time to simply relax.
Ensure your child has a space for learning. It doesn't have to be big or elaborate - just consistent!
We are all on our computers MUCH more than in the past. Just as adults are having "Zoom Burnout" and eyestrain, ensure your child has time to disconnect each day.
Recognize that this will look different for a while and does not take the place of our "old normal". Focus on the positive as much as possible, take learning outside, anything to keep things interesting!
