Grade primary students learn to count forward to 20 and backward from 10. If the start number is not 1, students only need to count to 10.
Make math fun at home! Often math gets the reputation for being boring and hard. Its important to start things off on a positive note in grade primary but making math fun. Here are some ideas to incorporate math into your daily life with your children at home.
Play board games- counting spaces, rolling dice, or problem solving are aspects of many board games that allows your child to develop their mathematical thinking skills!
Puzzles! Wonderful for spatial sense and problem solving.
Organizing and sorting toys
Measuring household items- no need for a measuring tape, grab a shoe, or a pencil, or any object to measure household items, rooms or furniture.
Bake or cook with your kids- counting how many scoops or measuring how many cups and teaspoons.
Play "What time is it Mr. Wolf"- kids will count their steps and begin to hear the phrases we use for time!
Play with lego and/or blocks- great for spatial awareness and fine motor skills
Use beads, colorful blocks, crayons or different shapes to create patterns together.
