Word Work lists will be sent home every other Monday and will focus on specific word patterns to help students strengthen their reading and spelling skills. Each school day, students should engage with their word list at home by choosing one or more activities from the Word Work Homework Choice Board, which will be distributed in class. The board has two sides: Activity Board 1 includes nine word sorting options, and students should complete at least three of these each week. Activity Board 2 features twelve spelling activities, and students should complete at least three of these weekly in their Spelling Book. Spelling words can be found in your child’s assignment book, and each set of words will be used for two weeks to allow for deeper practice and understanding. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home!
During the third quarter, students will transition from spelling practice into focused vocabulary instruction. This shift will help deepen their understanding of word meanings, usage, and connections across subjects. Vocabulary work will include activities that build comprehension, encourage rich language use, and support reading and writing development. Students will continue to use their assignment books to track vocabulary words and complete engaging tasks that reinforce their learning at home.
Math homework will be assigned each day to reinforce the concepts we’ve explored during our classroom lessons. These assignments are designed to provide meaningful practice and help students build confidence in their math skills. If your child finds the homework challenging or needs additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with a note or email. Open communication helps us work together to ensure every student feels successful and supported in their learning.

Students should read approximately 20 minutes a day. Any type of text can be read. We will set a goal to read 100 books as a whole class. Students will be asked to write down what book they read, and we will create a bookworm. We will have a special celebration once we reach 100 books read by the class.
At various points throughout the school year, students may be assigned additional projects or tasks that align with our thematic units of study. These assignments are designed to enrich classroom learning by encouraging deeper exploration, creativity, and critical thinking. Families will receive advance notice of these projects, along with clear instructions and due dates, communicated via email. This ensures students have ample time to plan, complete their work thoughtfully, and engage meaningfully with the content.
