Birthdays
Celebrating students' birthdays in class is always a fun activity! If your child is celebrating a birthday soon, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Students are welcome to bring or have a parent bring in treats for their special day. We have 20 kids in our class this year so please make sure you send enough for everyone. You are also welcome to contact me with questions about allergies.
We typically celebrate birthdays during the last 20-30 minutes of the school day.
If your child has a summer birthday or a birthday happening during a break from school, I'm happy to make arrangements for them to celebrate with us while we are at school. Some kids like to celebrate on their half birthday and some prefer a date in the spring before school lets out. Let me know what works best for you!
This year, each student will create an "Star Student News” Birthday Poster to share with the class around their birthday. The poster gives classmates a chance to learn more about one another and helps make each birthday celebration feel extra special.
Please complete the poster with your child and return it to school about one week before their birthday so it is ready for them to present to the class. (If your child has a summer birthday or a birthday during a school break, we'll choose a special celebration date together.
Upland Terrace School Policy (as per our student handbook):
"If you are choosing to bring birthday treats to celebrate your child’s birthday, please adhere to the following guidelines. Treats must be store-purchased, not homemade, and individually wrapped items are preferred. Please provide enough treats for each student in your child’s class. The best thing to do when bringing treats to school is to bring the treats to the office and we will make sure the treats get to your child. Or just send your child to school that day with the treats.
Balloons and large distracting decorations will not be allowed in the classroom. Please contact your child’s teacher for information about class food allergies and to make them aware that you will be bringing treats."
