Mrs. Gilbert's First Grade
Welcome to first
grade!
I am pleased to take this opportunity to introduce myself and welcome you and your child to my class. I look forward to the upcoming challenges and celebrations that teachers, parents and students will experience together!
I have been teaching for the past thirty-one years, nineteen of which have been in first grade. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Kutztown University with a degree in elementary and special education. I received my master’s degree in guidance counseling from the same university. My husband, Kevin, works for Merck in procurement as an associate director for lab supplies. Kevin and I have been married for 30 years. We have two children. My son, Adam, is a systems engineer focusing on adoption and engagement in the technology department for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is married to Sydney who is a structural engineer. My daughter, Erin, is a sales representative working at Thermo Fisher Scientific supporting the University of Pennsylvania research labs. Adam, Erin and Sydney all graduated from Penn State University.
I believe that a successful learning experience is built on a cooperative effort among parent, child and teacher. The first grade expectations for conduct and academic standards are high, as we build a classroom community that is challenging, supportive and enjoyable. With your support both in and out of the classroom, we can look forward to a productive, creative and fun year together.
Again, welcome. Please do not hesitate to contact me about any questions or concerns you may have. My classroom door (room 122) is always open. I look forward to getting to know you and your child as we set out on our adventures in learning!
