What is an Activity Type?
An activity type is a way for educators to involve their students in learning the most important details/parts of a particular subject. Similar to a highlighter, any given activity type selected to use should illuminate the most critical and important parts of a subject, through the use of an activity.
Pictured below is an example of how an educator can use the activity type "surveys and polls" to highlight the main concepts in teaching a lesson on democracy. In this lesson, students are required to think of something they are passionate about, and create a poll for their peers to complete. For example, one student may create a poll using the question: 'which animal do you prefer? - cats, dogs, or other?' This student will be able to see what the majority of their classmates think, regardless of how strong their own opinions are. Thus, teaching this student that majority rules when it comes to democracy and freedom of choice. When asked to consolidate what they learned, and share in a class google doc, students will be able to expand their learning, and relate to other peers based on what they wrote. As an educator, I would anticipate that many of the student responses will be similar in nature, therefore consolidating students' learning about what democracy means.
