Individual and Group Counseling

Counseling Services

School Counselors provide professional assistance and support to students or to small groups of students during times of transition, stress, times of change or regarding other situations that are impeding their success in school. We do not provide therapy or long-term counseling in the school setting. However, school counselors are trained and prepared to recognize and respond to student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking resources. Two specific ways by which we accomplish this is through small -group counseling and individual counseling.

Group Counseling

We offer a wide variety of services for our students, one of them being small group counseling. Group counseling takes place once a week over a five to six week span. These groups usually focus on specific topics such as bullying prevention, self-esteem, positive school behaviors and making and keeping friends. Data is pulled from our Student Needs Assessment, teacher, admin and parent referrals that, with permission slips being sent home to parents regarding groups that will be forming based off what our students reported.

Individual Counseling

Students can meet with their school counselor individually by self-referral, counselor referral, teacher request or parent request. During individual meetings the school counselor can help children understand what their feeling and why, cope with family changes, family crises, and develop decision making skills, conflict resolution skills, anger management techniques, and problem solving strategies, just to name a few. If you feel the need for me to touch base with your child, please email me or call me. My email and phone number are listed at the bottom of this page.
