Philosophy of Education

I believe...

All students can learn.

Each child is an individual. As a teacher, it is my job to meet them at their level, and find a way to connect to them, and move them forward with their education. If students can't learn the way we teach, we must teach them in a way that they can learn.

Mistakes are okay.

Mistakes happen. We are all human. We must give students the opportunity make mistakes in the classroom, and help them discover how to learn from those mistakes.

We are a classroom community.

My students will be part of our classroom community, through class meetings, classroom jobs, and a positive behavior plan. Our classroom is just as much theirs as it is mine. In fifth grade, children learn how to become responsible and accountable for themselves as well as their learning, and their classroom. I am giving them the tools to become successful in life, to believe in themselves, and to love themselves. My classroom will be a caring, safe place for all my students.
