Fractured Fairy Tales

Get ready to twist, flip, and remix your favorite fairy tales! In this fun and creative course for grades 3–5, we will read fractured fairy tales—stories that take classic fairy tales and turn them upside down in surprising and silly ways. We’ll meet familiar characters like brave heroes, tricky villains, magical helpers, talking animals, and even dragons, but they might not act the way we expect!

As we read, we’ll explore the core elements of fairy tales, from far-away (or not-so-far-away) magical settings and exciting quests to problems that must be solved with courage, kindness, and a little magic. We’ll notice fun patterns like events happening in threes, amazing transformations, and clear battles between good and evil. To bring our stories to life, we’ll also create hands-on crafts that help us build our settings and design our characters, turning ideas into something we can see and touch. Then, the best part—we’ll become authors! Using everything we’ve learned, we’ll write our own fractured fairy tale with original characters, playful twists, magical moments, and an important lesson. Whether your story ends with a happily ever after or a surprising twist, this course is all about imagination, creativity, and the joy of storytelling.
