As part of our music curriculum, your child is learning to play the Ukulele. The ukulele, a string instrument, represents a wonderful opportunity to further the music-reading skills your child has learned. We hope by giving students a positive, enjoyable learning experience they will be encouraged to develop an even greater interest in music. The school has purchased 30 school instruments to use in class.
Ordering a ukulele is NOT REQUIRED; many students enjoy the opportunity to have their own Ukulele to practice both at school and at home. Unlike recorders, there is no need to buy a ukulele; however, this instrument would make a nice gift for a birthday or for Christmas. School-owned ukuleles will be available for classroom use for students who do not make a purchase. Please note that these classroom items will need to be kept at school for music class use only.
Ukulele Purchase information (optional)
Our class ukuleles came from Center Stage Music (new name Music & Arts) on Washington Road in Martinez. (same shopping center as Carolina Pottery) They have several different brands and prices. We are using the Waterman Soprano Ukulele in school. These are plastic and come in a variety of colors. There are also traditional wood instruments like the Makayla MK Soprano Ukulele. Various other stores in town and online have instruments for sale. The only requirement is that you get a Soprano Ukulele.
