About me
In case you didn't know, I LOVE history and geography and personal finance! Teaching and learning are huge passions for me and I hope to share that excitement with my students in every class! I believe in "experiential education" - interacting with a subject in the most authentic way possible. Sometimes that looks like a mock battle, other times it's in an "escape room", or it might even be examining primary sources from differing points of view. You never know what adventures await when you come to class each week.
As for me personally, I've been married to my patient husband, Kent, for 33+ years. We are the proud parents of two girls who were homeschooled from birth all the way through high school. Our oldest, Madison, has a Master's Degree in Social Work and is passionate about making kids' lives better. Her husband, Alec, is a talented actor, director, and musician and a voracious reader. Our youngest daughter, McKinley, graduated in May 2023 with Bachelor's degrees in Accounting and Marketing and got those degrees on the same day she received her MBA. She is an internal auditor in the Nashville area and got married to Jude Bowers on May 31, 2024! Jude is an awesome guy and super talented musician. He even wrote, performed, and produced the song that McKinley walked down the aisle to. (insert tears here) And you should also know that I have the best dog in the world! His name is Theodore Nash Phillips (we call him "Theo") and he's just the cutest. (see pic at left for confirmation)
Kent and I are active members of the Church of Christ in Champions. Our favorite things to do are travel and have fun food experiences. We just returned from our first trip to Eastern Europe and loved that part of the world!
This is my 10th full year teaching at PREP (I also ran Cypress Study Hall for 7 years and taught Spanish for 9 months) and it's been a joy to get to know so many awesome students! My girls were tremendously blessed by their participation in PREP Classes and I pray that I bless my students as well.
