welcome to american government!!

Have you actually read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution? Would you be able to pass the US Citizenship test? Too many people vote for issues and candidates based on what they see on social media or in the news. No more!!! In this class we are heading back to the original documents to understand how and why our government was established. This Fall, you will gain critical knowledge to help you become an informed citizen and an educated voter!

Textbook and supply list -

The founding documents will be our main text this year. We will be analyzing those primary sources and digging deep into their meaning and execution in creating our innovative government. In order to help us stay organized and focused in our approach, we will also utilize the following:

-American Government booklet - prepared by Shanna Phillips - I will distribute this throughout the semester.

-Our Constitution Rocks by Juliette Turner ISBN 978-0-310-73421-5 - while this book appears a bit juvenile at first glance, it is a valuable tool to help add a little focus and simplicity to an otherwise often overwhelming subject. One of the government classes I took this summer utilized this book as a quick reference. It was very helpful!

Other source material used in class will be provided by Mrs. Phillips or available online

now would be a good time to make sure you have plenty of ink and paper and a working printer!!

-1" 3 ring binder (this binder should be dedicated to this class)

-Notebook paper

-Pens - at least 4 different colors

-3x5 index cards - 100 ct

--Project supplies as needed including one additional, project-specific book (book can be borrowed from the library)
