Dear 2nd Grade Families,
Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.
Our 2nd Grade class will be celebrating the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation this month. The date is Saturday, 3/28 for all students who are catholic, and baptized. More information will follow soon. We are preparing for the sacrament in the classroom and Fr. Callistus visited us on Friday to talk with our students about forgiveness.
The students will have their Unit 3, Weeks 1-5 Assessment next Thursday, 3/5. We are reviewing in class each day. I've sent home the reader (big, purple, Inview book) for review. I know it's heavy but we need to have it returned to school each day, please. I try not to send it home unless necessary for that reason. Thank you!
Finally, if your child is absent from school, please know that we worry about him/her and are waiting for their arrival. Please call the main office if you know your child will be out, and or send me an email letting me know. If your child was out and returned, they should either be bringing a note regarding their absence, or send it via email. Thank you for all who are already doing this. We need to keep our school records up to date. Thank you so much for your support.
Notes...
Weekly Reading comprehension assessments are given on Fridays. They consist of 5 questions that pertain to the weekly selection. We read the selection twice in class and dissect it, as well two additional opportunities for students to read it as morning work. The purple MyView reader will go home on Thursdays for the children to reread the weekly story with you. Please return the reader to school each day. Thank you.
At the end of the unit, I will add up the weekly comprehension quizzes for 1 grade. Once a month, they will have an end of unit assessment that will include spelling, vocabulary, and grammar they have also learned. We will review the unit work for a week before that Unit assessment.
Regarding the SSCA folder...the daily math worksheet is in their folders, any important papers from the office, or any letters etc. from me. You can take out any checked work like CW or HW, and keep it at home so the children aren't carrying folders back and forth with too many papers.
Please initial your child's planner where they write their HW each day so I know you've seen it and know what they are assigned for homework. Thank you.
Here's to a great week ahead!
