Homework & Reminders
Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025
The school will be attending the 9:00 mass tomorrow for First Friday. If you are available to join us, you are most welcome!
Tomorrow, 11/7 is a 12:10 dismissal day. Please pack snack and only lunch if your child will be attending the after school program. Teacher PD after dismissal tomorrow.
Math: pg. 46 of worksheet sent home yesterday. If your child already completed 45 and 46, they don't have math homework today! Any child with this sheet in their folder has the questions noted that they should do. (4 questions)
Read: Unit 2, Week 1 selection in MyView reader
Religion: Students will be tested verbally on their knowledge of the Hail Mary, Our Father, and Glory Be prayers over the course of Friday and next Monday. We say these prayers daily at Morning Assembly, at our Rosary Rally, as well as in the classroom. Please continue to practice saying these prayers at home with your child.
Please sign and return tests sent home. Thank you.
Regarding our first class trip... Please return the permission note and fee this week if you have not already done so. We don't have 100% return yet. Thank you!
Parents, please let me know if you'd like to join us and are Virtus trained. We currently have three parents coming along with us.
If your child is absent from school, please call the school office that morning. Also, please send in an absence note when your child returns to school. You can download one off of FACTS under resources. Thank you.
Reminders for this week:
If you are interested in offering to join us as a chaperone on a class trip or do lunch duty, you will need to be Virtus trained and have a background check. We have some parents in our class who are qualified but if you aren't and would like to be, please check in the office to see when the next training is offered at our parish or in a neighboring parish. Thank you.
**Please see your child's planner (first page) with our 2nd grade Art Google Classroom Code. Mrs. Della Croce (our Art teacher) asks that you please join.
The Weekly Selection Comprehension quizzes will be returned at the end of the unit and students will be given one grade for the 5 quizzes in a unit, combined. Each quiz has 5 comprehension questions. The end of unit 1 assessment will follow, and we will review the week before in class. The first ELA Unit Assessment is planned for Monday, October 20th.
I gifted each student with a HW pass for the first trimester. They may use it for any 1 HW assignment anytime from now until the end of the trimester (before Thanksgiving). I know there are some days when many things are going on and homework doesn't always all get done. This is a good opportunity to save it for such a day for one assignment.
Beginning the week of 9/15, students will have a Reader Response writing assignment to complete about whatever they have been reading during the week at home, for their 15 minutes per day reading HW. They may also choose to write about the weekly selection they will be reading for HW on Thursdays to review for Friday's 5 Q comprehension quiz. We may skip a week here and there as I don't want to give the students too much homework in a day.)
Reminders
Mondays we have Art class. If your child hasn't brought in a sketch pad yet, please send them with one on Monday.
Tuesday and Friday are gym days. Students should be in full gym uniform for these days and wearing sneakers. Thank you.
Thursdays are Media days. If your child hasn't brought in their earbuds or headphones in yet, please send them in.
(Beginning this week, students will have a Reader Response writing assignment to complete about whatever they have been reading during the week at home, for their 15 minutes per day.)
Gentle reminder ~ Mrs. Picarello has asked all students to be in SSCA uniform each day and has been letting us know throughout the school as she notices some students are not in compliance. She has also sent out a notice to all school families with more specific details about our school uniform. Thank you.

I will be checking my school email during the day as I am able but may not reply right away, as I am teaching your children. It may be after dismissal when I'm back in touch. If you reach out in the evening and I miss it, I'll be back to you ASAP in the morning. Thank you.
My email address is: jpaguaga@stsebastianacademy.org.
A few quick essentials:
Children should arrive at school by 7:50 AM beginning Wednesday, 9/3 and each school day following, as we begin with Morning Assembly each day at 8.
On early dismissal days, we dismiss at 12:10.
Second grade dismisses onto Woodside Avenue by the small gate from the school parking lot (Exit C)
Kindly arrive on time so your child is not worried. If for some reason you have an emergency and need to reach me ASAP, please reach out to the school office and they will get a message to me. Thank you. We will do our best to be out on time for dismissal for you, but on occasion, something pops up right around dismissal that may delay us a couple of minutes. Thank you for your patience.
Our office number is 718-429-1982 or 429-5502.
Please check this class Google Site regularly throughout the school year, especially the newsletter for a quick check for homework, messages, and any details that are too much for the students to write in their planners about the upcoming week. You will be able to see what your children are learning in each subject, each week, as we progress through the year, by clicking on the Subjects & Learning Targets tab on the top of this page.
Please buy Con-Tact Clear Transparent Paper to cover your child's soft covered, practice books; for example: Math, Science, Social Studies, ELA/Reader, Religion. You can order it on Amazon or shop at Staples or any store that sells office supplies. I will send home a few books at a time to have covered. Books do not hold up well for the entire school year when they are not covered so I thank you in advance for doing this. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. J. Paguaga
