Students receive 225 minutes per week of gifted instruction. Our unit, Curate 4 Change is complied of language arts, math, science and history. In the world in which we live, acquiring knowledge is not enough. We must be proficient in using and communicating that knowledge effectively. This museum project gives us a springboard for diving into a real-life example for how this is done every day … in a museum.
Skills involved in this unit include: asking and investigating questions, finding and managing information, analyzing and synthesizing ideas, solving problems, collaborating and creating. This is end with students creating their own museum displays and layout of a museum.

In the first half of the year, our area of focus is Language arts with our unit titled 'Yolanda the Yarnspinner' where students will determine the structure of various pieces of literature and will then use that structure in their own original creative writings. As a final product, students will write and illustrate an original trickster tale. They will use technology to create a short video of their story.
Our math unit, 'Exploring Shape Games: Geometry with Imi and Zani' begins with an introductory lesson that familiarizes students with their roles as speakers and listeners in a math learning environment. This will take place in the seond half of the year.

Students receive 90 minutes per week of Gifted instruction. The first half of the year will have a focus on language arts. Our unit, "Journey's and Destinations" has a guiding theme of this unit is the recognition of change as a concept that affects people and their relationships to the world around them. An open-ended approach to the discussion process is emphasized in the search for meaning in literature selections such as Aesop’s fables, The Green Man, One Little Bag, and “Ozymandias.”
The second half of the year will have a focus on math. Project A3: Awesome Advanced Activities for Mentoring Mathematical Minds, content allows students to think deeply about the mathematics by engaging in rich discussions and in-depth written explanations to justify their thinking. These investigations are a far cry from your typical enrichment worksheets. Students love the games and interactive activities that challenge them and encourage their critical and creative thinking.
