Assignments Policy - Assignments in science are constructive tools in the teaching/learning process, geared to meet the needs and abilities of students. Purposeful assignments are an extension of the classroom and are chosen to not only enhance student achievement, but also develop self-discipline and associated good working habits. Assignments will be planned, organized, evaluated and returned to students in a timely manner.
Assignments will be assigned frequently and students are expected to complete assignments as part of their class responsibilities. Late work will be accepted with a 10% deduction for each day that the assignment is late. Assignments turned in after 5 days may not be accepted and calculated into the quarter grades.
Test and Quiz Policy - Tests will be given at the ends of chapters or units. Tests will be announced at least 2 days in advance. Quizzes will be given more frequently and will be announced at least 1 day in advance. Students earning a grade of D+ or less on a test or quiz may retake another test or quiz covering the same material. Students should make arrangements with Mr. Plautz to retake the test or quiz at one of the following times: a) prior to school; b) during the 20 minute break; c) after school. The grades from the first attempt at the exam and the retake will be averaged to determine the grade for the quiz or exam.
Extra Credit - Extra credit is a reward for additional work and learning. Limited extra credit opportunities will be available throughout the year at the teacher's discretion. Students are expected to do their best work on assignments, tests and quizzes and other class work to achieve their grade goals and not to expect extra credit opportunities at the end of quarters to elevate their grades. To encourage students to do their best work on all assignments and assessments, extra credit will not be available during the last weeks of each quarter.
