Course Overview

The 7th grade science curriculum is designed to engage students in explorations of the natural world. Students will investigate scientific content and learn science practices in the context of attempting to address challenges in or answer questions about the world around them. A variety of topics from several different science disciplines will be covered. Topics include: The Nature of Science, Geologic Processes and History, Earth’s Water and Atmosphere, The Diversity of Living Things and Energy & Energy Transfer. Along with the text books, additional resources including articles, computer programs, internet resources, and videos will also be used to help students make connections between experiences in class with phenomena, encounters, events, and issues outside of class. Interdisciplinary units are also implemented throughout the school year to complement and integrate math, science, language arts and social studies curricula.

During the first and second quarters students will complete a project called Science Seminar. This assignment is similar to a science fair and encourages students to think and interact like a young scientists. Final Science Seminar Projects will be shared in class during the third quarter.
