Math 7 Accelerated is a rigorous fast paced course that includes all of the 7th grade math standards and units from the 8th grade math standards. The design of the course is to prepare students to complete a full year Algebra I course before entering High School. The curriculum is aligned to the areas of focus as identified by the NJ Student Learning Standard for grades 7 and 8.
In this course students will build an understanding of rational numbers concepts and accurately apply them in problem solving contexts. Students will develop fluency with rewriting linear expressions and solving linear equations combined with rational numbers, and arithmetic and linear expressions that require the students to analyze and apply proportional relationships. The geometry standards will provide opportunities for the students to use proportional reasoning in context. Additional work in modeling, relationships with variables, equations, and ratio and proportional reasoning to make connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations. The idea of a function is introduced as a precursor to concepts that are included in the high school standards.
Homework: 10% of final grade.
Homework will be assessed based on the effort put into an entire assignment, not the accuracy of the answers provided.
Classwork: 30% of final grade.
Participation: 15% of final grade. This grade will be assigned based on the following categories:
Preparation for class
Frequency of participation and impact on completion of class activities
Focused/On task during activities, attention and respect to others
Application of topic concepts and related academic language
Summative Assignments: 45% of final grade.
