I got my undergraduate diploma in 2017, in early 2018 I got my first job as an English teacher. I was amazed because of the working environments and the technology and some digital tools available for me. After a couple of years I realized that those techs I had available were not used in a real meaningful way and most teachers in my workplace used them in the same way everyday. In addition, the pandemic COVID19 outbreak showed that I, as many other teachers, were not ready to face the transformation of education. At that point, I wanted to change my career. I decided to enroll in the International Logistics training program at SENA (National Training Service). I foresaw my ability at English and my new career as a way to overcome this huge educational change caused by the pandemic mentioned before. But once I had started in the training program, I was offered a scholarship to study a master's degree in education and I could choose any program, so that is when I thought about technology for teaching and learning.
Initial goals
My initial goal prior to entering the Master of Arts in Education at Michigan State University was to deepen my background on the use of technology in education in such a way that I could provide diverse learning environments in which technology and adapted content are integrated in order to provide students, especially those from isolated places, new academic experiences.
Current goals
My goal remained the same when I started my master, but some ideas came to my mind as I went through different courses. First, my current goals focus on the right use of technology for the acquisition of a second language. Also, I want to leverage on technology to offer high quality education to minorities in the region of Choco, Colombia where I come from. This is a way of closing the inequality gaps between privileged and underprivileged people. Secondly, every instructor must be able to migrate to the 21st century learning trending, adapt to students technological habits, prepare them for being long-life learners. In that way, my goal is to serve as technological support for my peers. For example, I am working for SENA now, there is a local project which seeks to use Virtual Reality for learning. My experience in the Master of Education helped to construct bases for this project. That has been grateful for me.
To me it’s curious to wave between leaving, staying in education, and then trying to be teachers tech support. The main reason for this switch is basically the fact that there is a young generation who are considered the digital natives and there are the immigrants; the people who are just adapting to the new. For example, old and some middle aged teachers. In that sense I really want to support teachers' education in the use of technology for teaching and learning.
