I am the youngest of seven children and grew up in Loup City, Nebraska and graduated from LCPS. I went on to attend UNL and graduated with my BA in 2001. I began my teaching career at Milligan Public Schools in 2001. The next year, Exeter and Milligan merged to form Exeter-Milligan Public Schools where I was employed until 2011. While teaching at Exeter-Milligan I taught various Social Science subjects and a Computer Literature class. In January 2010-June 2011, I was the school's technology coordinator where I was responsible for various tasks including leading the 1:1 Laptop Initiative. I coached Girls/Boys Golf and was Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Exeter-Milligan. In August 2011, I started teaching at Malcolm Public Schools where I have taught 9-12 Social Sciences, 7th Grade Computers, and was Assistant Boys Basketball Coach. Currently, I teach American Government, American History, Law, Psychology, and Economics and am the Head Boys Basketball coach.
On June 26, 2004, I married Keri McTaggart. We live in Lincoln where Keri teaches second grade for Lincoln Public Schools. In 2018, our daughter Claire was born.
In my spare time, I enjoy watching sports, golfing, fishing, learning about new technology, and traveling. I am very passionate about Husker Athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals.
So why did I get into the teaching profession? The simple answer is to make a difference. When thinking of who influenced me the most growing up, I came to the conclusion that my parents and some of my teachers and coaches at Loup City Public Schools impacted my life the most. Mr. Reeves, Mr. Scheuler, Mr. Klein, and Mr. Meade were outstanding educators in their field but more importantly excellent role models. There are few professions where one person can impact so many lives the way teachers can. My quest is to help prepare my students for life and help them develop a passion for learning about Social Sciences. Each day I strive to make myself the best through self-reflection. My goal is to have every student have success in my classes and help them on their journey to a successful life.
Why do I teach social sciences? It has always been a passion of mine, probably due to a few teachers back home. I believe this content area is applicable to everyone's life. The reason why some people dislike these subjects is due to the fact that they were never introduced to seeing the "BIG PICTURE". By tying the past to the present and future by using current events, discussions, and engaging activities I believe I can accomplish this.
