I have been a member of Mock Trial since freshman year. Throughout my years in the club I have been both a witness and an attorney. Mock Trial has given me the opportunity to get a headstart on one of my greatest passions - law.
Each year, the Pennsylvania Bar Association creates a case for the schools across the state. Each school works for a couple months creating a strong case, and then goes on to compete against other schools in front of lawyers who act as the judges. Mock Trial has helped me learn what it takes to create a solid argument, and has given me great feedback from professionals in the field of law.
As a member of The Gates, I have the privilege to write articles on a range of topics. For instance, last year I wrote articles on funding cuts to higher education and I was able to interview a new member of the Notre Dame faculty. This year, I have taken up leadership of the club as Editor-in-Chief. Working alongside club members and faculty, I have been working to expand the impact of the newspaper.
Through the Model UN club, I have been given the opportunity to attend conferences ranging from St. Andrew's Model UN, La Salle Model UN, to Harvard Model UN. Each of these conferences has given me the outlet to research contemporary issues of particular interest to me. For instance, when I attended Ivy League Model UN, I was able to research issues such as universal healthcare and brain drain. Model UN has not only allowed me to research a range of topics, but has also introduced me to the world of diplomacy and debate. As a woman who hopes to go into law and politics, Model UN has given me the tools to learn skills that will be vital in these professions.
