SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS?
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
SDG 3
Ensuring Health lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, or in short Good Health and well-being is the one, our concern of Public Urination is concerned with. In this SDG major progress was made in improving the health of millions of people. Significant strides were made in increasing life expectancy and reducing some of the common killers associated with child and maternal mortality. But more efforts are needed to fully eradicate a wide range of diseases and address many different persistent and emerging health issues. By focusing on providing more efficient funding of health systems, improved sanitation, and hygiene, and increased access to physicians, significant progress can be made in helping to save the lives of millions. And with the same idea, we proceed to eliminate the habit of Public Urination from the minds of people, so that the country is healthier and cleaner.
SDG 17
Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development or in short Partnership in goals is the next SDG our solution is concerned too. The SDGs can only be realized with strong global partnerships and cooperation. A successful development agenda requires inclusive partnerships — at the global, regional, national, and local levels — built upon principles and values, and upon a shared vision and shared goals placing people and the planet at the center. Strong international cooperation is needed now more than ever to ensure that countries have the means to recover from the pandemic, build back better and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. At Mrigh, we propose a partnership with Google Maps, and in the future all the other, location-based tracking apps to come forwards and support us to make public toilets more accessible to everyone. To Inform people about its location alongside proper reviews, making it easier and convenient for people to access them and hence reduce Public Urination.
So, together with Mrigh; SDGs, and Google Map, we can make India Public urination free.
Also, it takes time for change to come and we know, that this idea won’t decrease Public Urination by 100%, none of the policies do so, but we target just 1% of them, and if at least 1% of Public Urination decreases because of this initiative, we would know, that we are successful.
Every friend group has one or even two friends (s) who just cannot keep their bladder in check no matter what. They are that person who HAS to stop five minutes into the car ride, basically, the people who are good at peeing outside. So, what happens on a night out when you are with THAT friend? Peeing in a dark alleyway at about 2 a.m. is what happens. And that is where our problem comes.
PUBLIC URINATION
Starting from our ambition to be the first to provide a database of all the public toilets in urban areas of India, we conducted an extensive research on what platform that will serve that purpose to the best. This is our concept. We believe that before constructing more public toilets, which will need more cost and resources, something has to be done first to pave the way, that is to make urinating in toilets a habit. That can only happen if one is feeling easy enough to locate the nearest public toilet to them so they wouldn’t decide to urinate in public. It certainly aligns with our aim to solve SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) to stop the spreading of illnesses caused by public urination.
We realize that harnessing a platform that is already there will make our innovation more attainable. Google Maps, a satellite-based platform that provides access to real-time information and massive user input, is certainly a reliable option for our solution. Using Google Maps, we are able to generate a database of all the public toilets in urban areas of India. It works as simply as clicking one new button we have added, namely “Toilets Near Me”, as our project’s name suggests, to locate all the public toilets near your current location. Eventually, this user-end data we generate will be passed on to the government and related stakeholders to build more public toilets to make them more accessible.
