DT-791-1 Theatre Apprenticeship - G/T Grades 10, 11, 12  (1 credit) Prerequisite: Theatre I or application and audition In this Fine Arts course, an emphasis on training a new generation of theatre artists through original creation, portfolio development, independent research, task commitment and special topics related to Theatre. The majority of the class time will be dedicated to production team tasks connected to the co-curricular productions and/or classroom instruction supervised by the Theatre Arts teacher. Performance components beyond the regular school day are required. The number of required non-school practices, events and performances during a school year may not exceed 30. This course can be repeated for elective credit. 

This is a perfect course for upperclassmen with a strong interest in Theatre. Each apprenticeship is customized to that student through conversations & planning with Mrs. Greffen.  This is an excellent item to put on a college resume or to mention in a theatre job application. This can often lead to other internship opportunities in Howard County through HCC Theatre Department, or other local theatres. 

Some examples of Theatre Apprenticeship Areas of Interest: 

• a student with a strong interest in Directing might sign up for this course in order to assistant direct the afterschool production, or to be the Student Director in one of the GT courses.

• a student with a strong dance background might sign up for this course in order to choreograph and captain the musical numbers afterschool or to be the Student Choreographer in the Musical Theatre GT course.

• a student with a strong interest in Technical Design might sign up for this course in order to lead tech crew, work with Production Team to design & oversee set construction, prop construction & design, lighting design and/or audio design

• a student with a strong interest in Theatre Education and future teaching career might sign up for this course in order to work with the Theatre Arts 1 students as an assistant teacher and lead warmups/games, create & teach workshop lessons under Mrs. Greffen's guidance
