To revise efficiently you need to be able to ask yourself the right questions and consider the following aspects below

A-Plan your revision Sessions!

1-KnoW what the exam is actually testing :

There are 4 mains skills in MFL :

Productive Skills : Speaking / Writing

Receptive Skills : Listening / Reading

So depending what your exam is you may adapt your revision techniques !

Be aware of :

  • How long they are
  • What do they look like

Top tip :

  • Note: there a difference between 'remembering' what the vocabulary means and 'recalling' information (writing down a word from memory) make sure you adapt revisions accordingly.

2-Success in learning a language often hinges on your capacity to be PRO-EFFICIENT in all the following areas :

Top tips, ask yourself :

  • What topics are likely to come up ? Have you got a list ?
  • What Grammatical items are likely to come up at your level? Where can you find the specific vocabulary?
  • Do you know how to answer some exam type questions ?

3-Know your STRENGTHS and Weaknesses (Mapping problems)

  1. Make a mindmap / list of all the things you do not feel confident
  2. Be critical of your own Learning and prioritise the tasks / or items on your list from the least important to the most important
  3. Consider what you will have time for and how you are going to revise for them

Top tips :

  • Find out an area of your learning that needs work on, the give top priority in your revision ?
  • Find out ways to revise that will enable you to know whether you have reached the standards you want to achieve and test yourself


4-Identify the best resources to revise effectively from your lessons (Solving the problems)

Top tips :

  • Review your notes from lessons and which pages are the most useful
  • Review your worksheets from lessons looking at the challenges they posed : would you know how to do it again?
  • Review your work from previous assessments : Are there teachers comments that keep cropping up?
  • Have you managed to close the gaps on your personal learning targets you had previously identified ?
