This chapter deals with the aftermath of WWII as the Cold War gets started. Europe has to deal with the clean-up after the war (politically and economically), while the USA and USSR gear up to project global power for the different ideologies: communism vs. capitalism. Colonized areas find new hope in freedom (like we see in the chapters on decolonization), and the USA becomes the global cultural leader.
