“I SHUT MY EYES IN ORDER TO SEE.” – PAUL GAUGUIN
I like to work on sculptures that tell stories, sculptures that could show my culture and artistic life. I believe I am an artistically driven ambitious sculptor with a unique talent. My job as an artist is to make people think, I want people to think about their life, what they value most in their life, their time and everything that surrounds them. The sculptures I make are a tool to have a conversation with the viewer in hopes of encouraging them to have a moment of silence for themselves.
I make these book sculptures because I love to make sculptures, I love researching and making new designs, new ideas, they are a path for which I could tell stories visually. My sculptures look like they are frozen in their specific pose but yet wonder in our minds, they seem to be engraved in books but yet liberated, moving sculptures.
I like experimenting with different materials when making my sculptures like wire, plaster, paper, books, glass, and all sort of materials I find interesting to make my sculpture. The materials I use always have a reason and stories as to why I’m using them. I make book sculptures by carving them in my own designs. My book sculptures are revolting, they are provoking since the act of carving them out of books destroys the books completely, you could say that I’m challenging their contents, the status quo. I believe I could connect with the audience if I make something personal and special. The book sculptures in this regard help me a lot in making these unique works of art.
I have been a tutor of sculpting for three years. I have been teaching art and sculptures for youths. Teaching how to sculpt helped me to diversify my medium and become a much more seasoned sculptor. Teaching will encourage you to know more since your students will ask a lot of questions and challenge your standing, you will have to prove your excellence in those regards. Teaching someone something requires you to have a better understanding of the theme you are addressing thus teaching pushed me to new boundaries I have never thought I could reach in such short time.
I believe If you have a passion for your profession, you will be successful in your career that’s because any profession or skillset requires an enormous amount of experiment and studies. This requires you to sacrifice a lot of time learning, experimenting these things and if you don’t have a passion for your craft, you can’t sacrifice your time to learn hence you can’t achieve your dreams.
