Kickstart your student's mastery of and love of Middle School Math with courses that introduce new concepts, build confidence and fact fluency, and sharpen logical thinking. As a Middle School Math teacher with 15 years teaching experience, I know just what it takes to challenge and strengthen the teen brain!
Overview of Instruction
Students begin with a 30-minute diagnostic that tests for fact fluency and foundational skills in multi-digit multiplication, long division, subtraction with borrowing, and rounding decimals. Based on the results, students receive workbooks targeted to their needs as learners.
Workbook topics include:
HSPT Prep, Fractions, Decimals, Area & Perimeter, Percents, Ratios & Proportions, Volume & Surface Area, Negative Numbers, Statistics, Probability, Expressions & Equations, Exponents, The Pythagorean Theorem, Slope & Linear Equations...and more!
Advanced students will work on a variety of other brain-busting curricula, including a Number Systems Course that explores bases, the ancient Egyptian additive system, Roman Numerals, and the Mayan vertical place value system; a 100-plus page Number Puzzles workbooks covering logic, sequences, functions, and decimal and fraction math hacks; and a series of "Karate Math" workbooks in which students solve challenging word problems to level up from White Belt to Black Belt.
Individual or Small Group Instruction
While I do offer 1-on-1 tutoring, it has been my experience that small groups of 3-5 students offer the ideal learning environment because students are able to support one another, share their thinking, and compete in engaging games and activities.
