Foreign Travel Opportunities for High School Students

Living in the United States certainly has its perks. One of which is foreign travel opportunities. These opportunities range from fully funded to no funding based on what works best for you and your goals. Many of my students come from a diverse background of experiences and every year some of my students travel the world. Please see the options below and consider the possibilities.

US State Department

The US State Department offers a wide range of opportunities ranging from a couple weeks to language submersion experiences for a year. These options look great on a college application and offer exceptional learning experiences through travel. See https://bit.ly/2DM6Lmi

AFS- American Field Service

AFS offers a variety of different opportunities. These experiences are in many different parts of the world but usually are supported by host families and exchange programs. See https://www.afsusa.org/study-abroad/

Rotary Youth Exchange

The Rotary Youth Exchange program offers training and foreign travel for US students. Many times these programs are travel exchanges. See https://www.rotary.org/en/our-programs/youth-exchanges

The National WWII Museum

In addition to cultural learning, some programs are offered to enhance student learning in social studies. The National WWII Museum offers an unique opportunity for students and teachers to follow the footsteps of our ancestors through WWII. This is offered to both High School and College students. See https://bit.ly/2DNBPC6

Educational Tours

Periodically, I offer academic tours to learn about the culture, arts, traditions, and history of our global communities. Past trips have included Spain, Italy, and Peru. Future trips may include China, Russia, or South Africa. If interested, please let me know and we can discuss the possibilities of the next trip. Currently, Mrs. Antrim is leading a trip to the Dominican Republic for a 9+ day trip. Please ask me or see Mrs. Antrim.

International Free College Tuition

Some universities are offering free tuition to US students whom want to live in Germany. This is an opportunity to study, travel, and gain a degree. If this is a possibility you would like to explore, see https://www.studying-in-germany.org/

Here are 8 countries in Europe where US students can study for free. Pick your favorite and consider the option. https://www.student.com/articles/countries-american-students-study-free-europe/

World History AP is for the exceptionally studious high school sophomore who wishes to earn college credit through a rigorous academic program. This class approaches history in a non-traditional way in that it looks at the common threads of humanity over time: trade, religion, politics, society, economics, and technology and it investigates how these things have changed and continued overtime in different places. Students who take the World History AP course are expected to take the APWH exam on May 14th, 2015 during the morning session.
Model United Nations (MUN) is a course that offers students the unique opportunity to serve as delegates for the United Nations and work together to solve global issues. If you are interested in debate or learning more about the world, then this is the class for you. As a class, we will seek solutions for injustices through education, debate, and simulations. We will prepare, and even attend, conferences throughout the world. MUN provides students with an opportunity to make the change they want to see. Every issue explored will take us one-step closer, not only to solving the problems of the world, but also to educating and raising awareness in our local and international communities.
