1. Read the following summary of the first amendment and its implications, before we watch a short video on the establishment of the First Amendment and its first real challenge involving freedom of the press:

The First Amendment in Action Today Template

As you create your report, follow the examples seen in the EDCollection “The First Amendment in Action Today” case studies and format your report in three sections:

SECTION I: The Issue

Provide a summary of the issue you selected and the individual/group who is attempting to address it. Make sure to answer the following questions:

1. Whom does the issue affect and how? Why is it important?

2. What individual or group is involved in addressing it? Describe them.

3. How did the individual/group become involved in the issue? (Is the group directly affected or motivated to help others?)

SECTION II: The Action

Explain what the individual/group is doing to address the issue. Answer the following questions:

1. What is the goal of the individual/group?

2. Which First Amendment freedoms are they using?

3. Why is the First Amendment important for this group/individual?

SECTION III: The Outcome

Share the result of the individual’s/group’s actions. Explain:

1. What impact has the action you described had?

2. Has the individual/group achieved the goal it set? If yes, explain how. If not, explain why not.
