Assignment #2: -THE CAT WILL PLAY - Pet Blogs – 30 pts.

Creative Writing Spring 2017

Due at the beginning of the period Monday, Feb. 6^th.

While their people are away, cats usually chase mice and their tails. This time Kitty is working the mouse and putting his journal online. Your job will be to create an animal’s blog or online journal entry (Snoutbook?). This wiII require that you do some thinking about what type of things a dog, cat, hamster, parakeet, shark, grizzly bear, or any animal that you can imagine would write down in a journal. Below you will see four day entries for a pet cat... these are just examples that might get you started. Anyone that has a pet knows that we talk to them all of the time but rarely do we have a chance to hear back from them. Use your imagination to create what could be their responses to life with you. As usual, make sure they are appropriate for sharing with the class.

Day 752

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.

Day 761

Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded; must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to ,Vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.

Day 762

Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night.

Day 774

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait; it is only a matter of time.

See if you can come up with at least 7-10 entries that are appropriately "animal-like" for your journal. It is meant to be a fun way to start the semester, so a sense of humor and a little creative thinking are expected. This particular style of writing has paid off for a number of writers who have successfully written stories with the animal telling the tale (can you name a few?).

This is due as a hard copy by the beginning of the period, Monday.
