3:30 ~ This universal theme statement applies to most stories: "Through adversity a person's true character is revealed." This works for most stories given that there's always an obstacle in a story. If it doesn't work directly, thinking about the obstacles and how it affects the characters will likely get you on the right track to start to understand a possible theme. Check out my Luke Skywalker reference in the video. I've come to realize the explanation I give might be shaky, so be sure to ask me for clarification.
You may be able to avoid certain situations, but ultimately you can't change your fate. We see this theme throughout the Terminator film franchise. There's a consistent effort by both the Artificially Intelligent beings from the future along with the humans to ensure their species survives. Robots travel from the future in order to alter the timelines they come from, usually with the intention of eliminating a young threat. Humans travel through time or hide from time travelling threats in order to prevent harm to themselves or humanity. However, despite their efforts, the robo-apocalypse still occurs and Jon Conner assumes the role of leader. The lesson here is, while matters may seem chaotic, stressful, and full of welcome and unwelcome excitement at times, fate is the ultimate decider of how events will unfold. Perhaps it's better to be mindful of the journey in comparison to the destination. (Grade 10 or 11 level "Pro" response -- more detail required in higher grades)
