So, you bought a guitar or bass (or one was given to you), but now what? You may have watched a few videos and tried to follow along, or bought a book to learn from, but you still just can't get anything musical out of your new axe (slang term for a guitar, bass, or some other instruments). It might be time to get some "professional" help ... Find a guitar teacher! (you didn't think I meant a psychiatrist, did you?)
I am offering guitar and electric bass lessons starting during the fall of 2018 in my home in the West End of Huntington, WV. Ages 10 and up will be accepted as students, but younger students may be considered. The main focus of teaching will be on learning proper care and feeding or your guitar or bass (i.e. tuning, changing strings, cleaning, etc.), common chords and scales, familiar tunes (both melodies and chords), and learning songs (or parts of songs) chosen by the student. I would also like to focus on performance, so students are encouraged to work together to learn rock and country tunes for periodic recitals, ideally in a "live band" format.
So, you might be nervous about your first lesson. It happens to all of us. So, to help break the ice I offer a 1/2 hour free "consultation" lesson. What does that mean? Well, free means I'm not charging you for it. But, I would expect payment for any scheduled future lessons (see Payment Policy) to be paid at that time. The 1/2 hour bit means a standard 1/2 hour lesson. The "consultation" part means I am going to ask you some questions to see where you are currently in your guitar career. Are you an absolutely beginner? Or, do you already know a few chords and what to start learning scales and soloing? So, I will ask you things like:
I may add others, but you get the idea. If you are an absolute beginner, that is fine. I just want to get an idea of where you are currently so I know where you should start.
